Is BIGGER always better??

In the case of the humble blueberry, the answer is emphatically NO!

The blueberry on the left is a wild organic blueberry, and the one on the right is it’s organic, plumper, cultivated cousin! Both are full of phytonutrients and are considered PowerFoods, both are organically grown! Both are delicious and nutritious.

The reason why wild is best comes down to simple math: the active ingredient that makes these berries so potently nutritious is called anthocyanin, a powerful anti-oxidant. It’s found in the skin of the fruit… that vitally important barrier against the natural harsh elements that protect the flesh and prolific seeds on the inside. Cup for cup, the tiny wild berries have twice the skin than the larger berries, therefore they are twice as nutrient-dense. One cup of cultivated blueberries has 6% of the RDA of Vitamin C, and wild blueberries have 15%.

Then there's the inherent nature of wild things… wild-caught salmon versus farm-raised, grass-fed free-range beef versus industrial, grain-fed beef. We can talk about those comparisons in a different post, but they are critical to a Living Well life. Wild things, blueberries included, hold innate, survival information. They have adapted to their conditions in a way that allow them to provide life-giving attributes to those that consume them!

I recommend that my clients add at least one cup of wild blueberries EVERY DAY to their smoothies or somewhere else in their daily routine!! They are highly effective detoxifiers of heavy metals, DDT, chemicals, viruses, and other pathogens. Believe me when I tell you that this is EXTREMELY relevant in our day and age! These toxicities are the root cause of MANY life-threatening diseases, and wild blueberries help to clear those body burdens. Wild blueberries also feed our brains, which is vital as our stress levels continue to rise. Add wild blueberries and add life to your life!
